Biopharmaceutical Products Biopharmaceuticals are medicinal products produced by the use of biotechnology. They are proteins including antibodies; nucleic acids DNA, RNA or antisense oligonucleotides which are used for therapeutic or vivo diagnostic purposes and are formed by direct extraction from a native non-engineered biological source.
The majority of biopharmaceutical products are pharmaceuticals that are derivatives of living forms. Small molecule drugs are not usually regarded as biopharmaceutical by the industry. That is, the term has been used for variety of diverse companies producing innovative, apparently high-tech pharmaceutical products.
